“I found this in our closet,” Severus said, nodding toward the box on the table.

“Oh. Er, did you?” Harry asked, trying not to fidget.

Severus scowled. “It will not open.”

A nervous laugh escaped Harry. “Oh, that’s strange.”

“Why don’t you try?”

“Oh, me? Erm. Sure.” Harry sat down at the table and hesitantly reached for the miniature wooden chest. It sprang open at his first touch and he gulped.

“Imagine that,” Severus drawled, reaching for the box.

“Look, it’s not – ”

“Is this…?” Severus interrupted. He ran reverent fingers over the contents of the wooden box. “You saved my letters?”

Harry blushed. “Maybe.”

A tiny smile emerged onto Severus’ lips. “You did.”

“I might have.”

Severus stood and went around to give Harry a kiss. “You most certainly did, and you will most certainly be late for work if you do not leave now.”

“So will you,” Harry pointed out, rising to wrap his cloak around his shoulders.

“I need to stop by the lab for something. You go on.”

“See you this evening, Severus.” One more kiss, and Harry was out the door.

As soon as he heard the pop of Apparation, Severus hurried to his lab and went straight to the ingredients shelf. Pushing aside most of the K through L section, he finally saw what he was after.

Stroking a hand over his own shoebox full of letters, Severus smiled.
